Matthew Dieumegard-Thornton: speaker, author, speed wing pilot & mountaineer

 

Matthew Dieumegard-Thornton is a speaker, author speed wing pilot and mountaineer who on the 19th May 2012 became one of the youngest British climbers and part of the youngest ever team to climb Mount Everest. Since climbing Everest, Matthew has gone on to race the length of the UK by bicycle, make daring flights from towering alpine peaks, write and publish Dare to Dream - Matthew's account of Everest, and engage with numerous audiences at public speaking events across Europe.

Along with making ascents of a number of notable peaks over 7,000m in the Himalayas including expeditions to the remote Gorno-Badakhshan of the Pamir Mountains in Central Asia, Matthew has been building a long list of Scottish and Alpine ascents with speed wing descents.

Matthew is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and an ambassador for Global Angels, supporting children’s causes on expeditions and at speaking events.

Matthew is currently focusing on a number of modern fast & light expeditions and objectives in Europe and the Himalayas, with the bold #RidingGiants project set to be the next benchmark in high altitude mountaineering.
